VanEck consolidates UCITS ETFs and active funds

June 19, 2017--VanEck has announced the consolidation of its UCITS platforms, consisting of passively managed ETFs and actively managed mutual funds in Europe, into a newly established legal entity in Ireland, the VanEck ICAV.

According to VanEck, the consolidation of its UCITS platforms marks the next step in the company's business expansion following the integration of VanEck's European ETF and active fund business into one business unit in 2016.

ESMA consults on draft standards for trading obligation for derivatives under MiFIR

June 19, 2017--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published today a consultation paper regarding its draft technical standards specifying the trading obligation for derivatives under the Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR).

MiFIR's trading obligation will move over-the-counter (OTC) trading in liquid derivatives onto organised venues thus increasing market transparency and integrity alike. MiFIR, which implements parts of the MiFID II framework, outlines the process for determining which derivatives should be...

80% of German institutions 'have no exposure to alternatives'

June 16, 2017--Regulations, costs, and illiquidity are proving to be barriers for German institutions' allocations to alternative asset classes, a survey has shown.

There was "no clear upwards trend" to more alternative asset classes among mandates issued by German institutions last year, according to a Spezialfonds survey by German rating company Telos.

The Asset Under Management (AUM) in Italy sets a new record: €62.30 billion (€56.01bn for ETFs, €6.13bn for ETCs/ETNs and €0.167bn for open-end funds) with a growth of 26.14% compared to May 2016

Trading
Total on-exchange value traded for ETFs, ETCs/ETNs and open-end funds was €9.64 billion (464,031 trades), up by 20.27% compared to May 2016

China Post Global launches smart-beta Japan ETF-Listed on Deutsche Borse

June 16, 2017-China Post Global has launched an ETF focused on quality Japanese stocks on the Deutsche Boerse exchange, available to investors in the UK.

The Market Access Japan Quality 150 Index UCITS ETF aims to replicate the performance of the iSTOXX MUTB Japan Quality 150 index which screens for stocks with high levels of profitability, sustainable cashflow sand low leverage.

IMF-Euro Area: IMF Staff Concluding Statement of the 2017 Article IV Mission

June 15, 2017--The recovery has gained momentum, with a virtuous circle of private consumption and job creation. This provides an excellent opportunity to push forward with architectural reforms to deepen the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).

At the same time, structural reforms at the country level are needed to spur productivity growth, reduce competitiveness gaps, and help revive income convergence across the union. High-debt countries should use the remaining window of monetary accommodation to rebuild policy buffers. Countries already operating at capacity should support the healing process, including by accepting above 2 percent inflation for a prolonged period and by fostering more demand at home.

Lyxor halves European equity ETF fees

June 15, 2017--Lyxor has cut charges on three European equity exchange traded funds (ETFs) by more than half to undercut the competition in a heated passive price war.

As of 12 June the cost of Lyxor Euro Stoxx 50 UCITS ETF (MSED), Lyxor Euro Stoxx 300 UCITS ETF (MFDD) and Lyxor Stoxx Europe 600 UCITS ETF (MEUD) has fallen from 0.15 per cent to 0.07 per cent.
