Election results 2017: What does it mean for Brexit?

June 9, 2017--Britain's exit from the European Union has been plunged into uncertainty.

Theresa May has not secured the clear mandate that she sought for her version of a hard Brexit.

When she called the election, she declared: "Every vote for the Conservatives will make me stronger when I negotiate for Britain with the prime ministers, presidents and chancellors of the European Union."

LSE June 2017 ETF & ETP Monthly Report

June 9, 2017--Listings

5 new ETFs and 7 new ETNs were listed on LSE in May 2017.
There are now 903 ETFs (available as 1,383 lines through multi-currency offerings) and 457 other ETPs (available as 527 lines) on our London market.

Societe Generale had the most listing activity in May, bringing 7 short and leveraged ETPs to our market.

The SG WTI Oil x3 Daily Short and SG WTI Oil x3 Daily Long track the leveraged WTI Oil Futures indexes. The SG Gold x3 Daily Short and SG Gold x3 Daily Long track leveraged Gold Futures indexes. 3 short and leveraged equity ETPs track leveraged FTSE 100 indexes.

iShares expanded their current offering through listing 2 equity ETFs. iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF and iShares MSCI Europe Mid Cap UCITS ETF provide exposure to global and European stock markets, respectively.

PowerShares launched the PowerShares S&P 500 QVM UCITS ETF, a smart beta ETF which tracks the performance of stocks with the highest exposure to quality, value and momentum investment factors.

UBS also brought a smart beta product ETF to our market. The UBS ETF MSCI USA Select Factor Mix UCITS ETF tracks the performance of large to small cap stocks, weighted by their exposure to 6 long-term risk factors: momentum, value, shareholder yield, quality, volatility and size.

Lyxor Index Fund listed a corporate fixed income product, Lyxor $ Floating Rate Note UCITS ETF, which provides exposure to US corporate debt from the industrial, utility and financial sectors.

Trading Activity
Orderbook value traded for ETFs and other ETPs in May 2017 was £8.4 billion (223k trades), up by 42% compared to May 2016.
Orderbook value traded for ETFs and other ETPs YTD is £38.9 billion (1.1m trades), up by 8% compared to 2016.
Total on-exchange value traded for ETFs and other ETPs in May 2017 was £29.4 billion (329k trades), up by 52% compared to May 2016.
Total on-exchange value traded for ETFs and other ETPs YTD was £136.3 billion (1.6m trades), up by 16% compared to 2016.

Tradeweb European Exchange-Traded Funds Update-May 2017

June 9, 2017--ETF total traded volume Trading activity on the Tradeweb European-listed ETF marketplace reached a record-breaking €17.744 billion in May, narrowly beating the platform's previous strongest performance in March 2017.

Adriano Pace, managing director for equity derivatives at Tradeweb, said: "In May, more than 30% of the platform's total traded volume was executed in ETFs offering exposure to European equities, as the election result in France and speculation ahead of the UK general election dominated headlines. North America equities were also very active, but were heavily offered."

Solactive And Panthera Solutions Launch Solactive Panthera World Market Portfolio Index

June 8, 2017--A Global Benchmark For Multi-Asset Investment Strategies
Solactive and Panthera Solutions are launching the Solactive Panthera World Market Portfolio Index. This index seeks to replicate the global market portfolio as measured by Monaco-based asset allocation consultancy Panthera Solutions through a multi-asset indexing strategy.

Specifically, the index is composed of ETFs and minor cash positions tracking the performance of 11 asset classes.

EDHEC-Risk's 10th European ETF and Smart Beta Survey brings new insights on drivers for product adoption & challenges faced by investors

June 8, 2017--EDHEC-Risk Institute has announced the results of the 10th EDHEC European ETF and Smart Beta Survey, a comprehensive survey of 211 European ETF and smart beta investors, conducted as part of the Amundi research chair at EDHEC-Risk Institute on "ETF, Indexing and Smart Beta Investment Strategies".

EDHEC-Risk Institute has conducted a regular ETF survey since 2006, providing a detailed account of European investor perceptions and practices in the domain of ETFs and smart beta strategies over the past decade.

Key findings of the latest survey included the following:

HOW DO INVESTORS SELECT AND USE ETFS?
Since 2006, the increase of the percentage of respondents using ETFs in traditional asset classes has been spectacular: in 2006, 45% of respondents used ETFs to invest in equities and 10% to invest in fixed income, compared with 91% and 65% respectively in 2016.

Monthly Report: Strong demand for financial underlyings at Eurex

June 7, 2017--Market participants strongly relied on equity derivatives (+36 percent) to hedge their exposures on European markets, while turnover in Eurex's fixed income products rose 31 percent to 47 Million Euro.

Market participants focused on the finance industry during the month as uncertainty around Brexit continued to have a direct impact on the sector. The departure of the UK from the EU entails significant changes to many banks' business and operational models.

Grand City Property to be included in SDAX

June 6, 2017--Deutsche Börse reviews index composition/ Changes to be effective as of 19 June 2017
On Tuesday, Deutsche Börse announced changes to its selection indices, which will become effective on 19 June 2017.

The shares of Grand City Property Ltd. will be included in the SDAX index and will replace the shares of ZEAL Network SE. The inclusion of Grand City Property is based on the fast entry rule; the company is eligible for the index inclusion due to its market capitalisation and order book turnover.
