SIX Swiss Exchange ETF Market Report: 3rd quarter 2017
November 13, 2017--Today, SIX Swiss Exchange published the new ETF Market Report. It provides a broad insight in trading activity, trends and changes in the Swiss ETF market. The downward trend in trading volumes on the Swiss ETF market continued in Q3. The CHF 24.7 billion traded was 13.67% lower than the previous quarter's value. However, the year-on-year decline was relatively minor at 3.58%.
On 31 August, a new participant, Amsterdam-based IMC Trading B.V., commenced trading on SIX Swiss Exchange. The number of market makers thus increased to 18.
The number of trades was down as against the previous quarter from 260'365 to 222'727 (-14.46%). Following brisk issuing activity in Q2 with a total of 47 new ETFs listing on SIX Swiss Exchange, the number of new launches decreased to 28 in Q3.

ECB-Euro Area Securities Issues Statistics: September 2017
November 13, 2017--The annual growth rate of the outstanding amount of debt securities issued by euro area
residents was 1.1% in September 2017, compared with 1.3% in August.
For the outstanding amount of listed shares issued by euro area residents, the annual growth
rate was 0.9% in September 2017, compared with 0.8% in August.
Debt securities
New issuance of debt securities by euro area residents totalled EUR 575.8 billion in September 2017.
JPMAM debuts into the European ETF market
November 11, 2017--J.P. Morgan Asset Management (JPMAM) announced its plans to list its first two European ETFs on the London Stock Exchange, which will be available to investors across European key markets in due course.
The two actively managed liquid alternative strategies, JPM Equity Long-Short UCITS ETF and JPM Managed Futures UCITs ETF, will offer investors exposure to the investment characteristics typical of hedge funds by using alternative beta (which extends the concept of beta investing from long-only traditional strategies to include both long and short investing).
ESMA updates its Q&As on MiFID II/MiFIR Investor Protection topics
November 10, 2017--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has added 4 new Q&As to its Questions and Answers (Q&A) document on the implementation of investor protection topics under the Market in Financial Instruments Directive and Regulation (MiFID II/ MiFIR).
The new Q&As cover the topics of post-sale reporting, record keeping, and inducements.

November 10, 2017--The Board of Directors of SIX announces strategic and organizational changes so as to
strengthen the competitiveness of SIX and the Swiss financial centre in a changing business environment.
SIX will focus on infrastructure services for its shareholders and the financial
centre in securities, payments services and financial information. SIX will also increase its
commitment to innovation by launching a CHF 50 million venture fund and establishing
dedicated units to develop services to cover specific shareholder requirements.
MiFID II: ESMA consults on systematic internalisers' quote rules
November 9, 2017--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has today opened a public consultation on a proposed amendment to the Regulatory Technical Standard (RTS 1) which details the implementation of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II) and Regulation (MiFIR).
ESMA proposes to amend RTS 1 to clarify that systematic internalisers' (SI) quotes should reflect the price increments applicable to EU trading venues.
European Commission-Autumn 2017 Economic Forecast: continued growth in a changing policy context
November 9, 2017--The euro area economy is on track to grow at its fastest pace in a decade this year, with real GDP growth forecast at 2.2%. This is substantially higher than expected in spring (1.7%).
The EU economy as a whole is also set to beat expectations with robust growth of 2.3% this year (up from 1.9% in spring).
According to its Autumn Forecast released today, the European Commission expects growth to continue in both the euro area and in the EU at 2.1% in 2018 and at 1.9% in 2019 (Spring Forecast: 2018: 1.8% in the euro area, 1.9% in the EU).

EU watchdog sides with exchanges over new trading rules
November 9, 2017--The European Union's markets watchdog has proposed a tightening in share trading rules within the bloc's MiFID II reform, marking a victory for exchanges at the expense of big banks only weeks before the new rules come into force.

November 8, 2017--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published updated Questions and Answers (Q&As) regarding the implementation of the Benchmarks Regulation (BMR).
The Q&A include two new answers regarding the following topics:
Scope of the BMR: Application of the BMR outside the EU; and
Transitional provisions: Transitional provisions applicable to third country benchmarks.
