ESMA updates its EMIR Q&A
February 2, 2017--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has issued today an update of its Q&A on practical questions regarding the European Markets Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR).
The updated Q&A includes a new answer in relation to transition to the revised technical standards on reporting, which will become applicable on 1 November 2017.
The Q&A clarifies that the reporting entities are not obliged to update all the outstanding trades upon the application date

Growth companies from Deutsche Borse Venture Network finance more than one billion euros
February 1, 2017--The growth companies from the Deutsche Börse Venture Network have generated a total of €1.09 billion in 30 financing rounds, as Deutsche Börse announced today with the publishing of its January figures for the Cash Market, Pre-IPO & Growth Financing segment.
Currently, 120 growth companies and 214 international investors are part of the pre-IPO network. About half of the investors in the Venture Network come from the USA, the UK, Asia or other European countries.

January 31, 2017--Unscheduled adjustment to be effective as of 3 February 2017
On Tuesday, Deutsche Börse announced an unscheduled change to the SDAX index.
The shares of bet-at-home.com AG will replace the shares of Braas Monier Building Group S.A. Due to the acquisition of Braas Monier Building Group S.A. by Marsella Holdings S.à.r.l. the free float of Braas Monier Building Group S.A. has dropped to 6.19 percent, after expiration of the final acceptance period.

Solactive launches Solactive Swiss Family Owned Companies Index

January 31, 2017--Solactive is announcing the release of the Solactive Swiss Family Owned Companies Index, an index tracking the price movements of publicly traded family-owned companies that are domiciled and listed in Switzerland.
The index is used as the basis for UBS's tracker certificate (ISIN: CH0350101744). Family-owned companies are defined in the index as those in which the family ownership stake is of at least 32%. In addition, companies require a minimum threshold of CHF 500,000 for the 3-month average daily traded value to be included as components.

IMF Working paper-Fiscal Politics in the Euro Area
January 30, 2017--This paper provides evidence of fiscal procyclicality, excessive deficits, distorted budget composition and poor compliance with fiscal rules in the euro area.
Our analysis relies on real-time data for 19 countries participating in the euro area over 1999-2015. We look for, but do not find, conclusive evidence of bias in procedures in relation to country size. ESMA advocates common principles for setting up share classes in UCITS funds
January 30, 2017--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has today issued an Opinion on the extent to which different types of units or shares (share classes) of the same UCITS fund can differ from one another, having found diverging approaches in different EU countries.
UCITS can be sold to retail investors throughout the EU. However, there is currently no common EU framework for share classes, with some countries prohibiting the set-up of different share classes within a single fund and others permitting it with varying degrees of flexibility.

ECB-Euro area economic and financial developments by institutional sector: 3rd Quarter 2016
January 27, 2017--Euro area saving (net, as a percentage of disposable income) was higher in the third quarter of 2016 compared to the third quarter of the previous year while non-financial investment (net) was unchanged.
Non-financial investment (net) increased for households and was broadly unchanged for non-financial corporations. As a result of changes in saving and nonfinancial investment, euro area net lending to the rest of the world increased further.

ESMA publishes new Q&A on Alternative Performance Measures Guidelines
January 27, 2017--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published a new Questions and Answers (Q&A) document, comprising six questions, on the implementation of its Guidelines on the Alternative Performance Measures for listed issuers.
An alternative performance measure is a financial measure of historical or future financial performance, financial position, or cash flows, other than a financial measure defined or specified in the applicable financial reporting framework.
