ESMA issues risk dashboard for first quarter of 2017

June 14, 2017--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has issued today its most recent iteration of its Risk Dashboard, covering risks in the EU's securities markets for 1Q2017.

ESMA's overall risk assessment remains unchanged from 4Q16 at high levels.

In 1Q17, EU financial markets remained relatively calm with stable volatility and increasing equity market prices. EU sovereign bond yields continued to increase in 1Q17 by around 19 bps on average mirroring US government bonds. However, yield developments were heterogeneous with potential...

Global Asset Management ETFs on broadly diversified commodity basket launched on Xetra

June 13, 2017--New UBS Global Asset Management ETFs on broadly diversified commodity basket launched on Xetra

Two new commodity index ETFs issued by UBS Global Asset Management have been tradable via Xetra since Tuesday. The commodity index ETFs enable investors to participate in the performance of a diversified commodity basket. This commodity basket comprises components from the grain, energy, industrial and precious metals, livestock and soft commodities sectors.

Source launches Europe ex-UK ETF

June 13, 2017--In a response to the strengthening of European markets Source has launched a new Europe ex-UK exchange traded fund (ETF).

The Source MSCI Europe ex-UK UCITS ETF offers diversified exposure to large and medium companies across 14 developed market economies.

The fund will have an ongoing charge of 0.2% a year.

June 12, 2017--European ETP Monthly Highlights (Assets & Flows):
Assets
European ETPs AUM increased by €7.5bn on MoM basis and ended the month at €607bn.
Flows
European-domiciled ETPs registered strong inflows of +€11.1bn last month where year-to-date flows have reached +€48bn.
New Product Launches-40 New products
European ETP market witnessed 40 new launches in May which includes 28 Commodities ETPs , 11 Equity and 1 Fixed Income ETFs. Investment Themes for the Month

European indices (Regional focused) recorded inflows of +€2.2bn. Indices that benefitted this month were Euro STOXX 50 (+€879mn), MSCI EMU (+€392mn) and MSCI Europe (+€233mn). EM also saw significant inflows (+€1.3bn). Country wise, Japan (+€255mn) benefited while Germany & UK saw outflows (-€498mn) & (-€258mn) respectively.

Smart Beta segment recorded inflows of +€1.3bn. Value Factor ETFs surged with inflows of +€772mn. Robotics & Automation continued to draw steady investment (+€307mn). In other segments, Mid Caps (+ €685mn), Financials (+€191mn) and Industrials (+€112mn) benefitted while Real Estate lagged (-€137mn).

Corporate bond ETF were the net largest contributer for Fixed income flows, attracting +€2.4bn.

Gold ETPs (+€609mn) commanded most of the overall commodity flows (+€1bn).

Activity in US listed ETFs suggests that US investors were positive on both European-focused regional and country ETFs (+$5.1bn, ytd +$10.4bn). Turnover: MoM turnover increased by 25% The total turnover activity into European ETPs increased by 25% (€76.1bn) compared to the previous month’s total (€60.7bn).

Europe ex-UK UCITS ETF launched on Xetra

June 12, 2017--A new equity index ETF issued by Source has been tradable via Xetra and Börse Frankfurt since Monday.

The Source MSCI Europe ex-UK UCITS ETF enables investors to participate in the performance of 335 large and medium-sized companies from European countries, excluding the UK. The reference index exclusively comprises companies ranking in the top 85 percent of the respective country on the basis of their market capitalisation.

ECB-Euro Area Securities Issues Statistics: April 2017

June 12, 2017--The annual growth rate of the outstanding amount of debt securities issued by euro area residents was 1.3% in April 2017, the same as in March.

For the outstanding amount of listed shares issued by euro area residents, the annual growth rate was 0.8% in April 2017, the same as in March.

The annual growth rate of debt securities issued by euro area non-financial corporations was 8.2% in April 2017, compared with 9.4% in March 2017.

Election results 2017: What does it mean for Brexit?

LSE June 2017 ETF & ETP Monthly Report

June 9, 2017--Listings

5 new ETFs and 7 new ETNs were listed on LSE in May 2017.
There are now 903 ETFs (available as 1,383 lines through multi-currency offerings) and 457 other ETPs (available as 527 lines) on our London market.

Societe Generale had the most listing activity in May, bringing 7 short and leveraged ETPs to our market.

The SG WTI Oil x3 Daily Short and SG WTI Oil x3 Daily Long track the leveraged WTI Oil Futures indexes. The SG Gold x3 Daily Short and SG Gold x3 Daily Long track leveraged Gold Futures indexes. 3 short and leveraged equity ETPs track leveraged FTSE 100 indexes.

iShares expanded their current offering through listing 2 equity ETFs. iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF and iShares MSCI Europe Mid Cap UCITS ETF provide exposure to global and European stock markets, respectively.

PowerShares launched the PowerShares S&P 500 QVM UCITS ETF, a smart beta ETF which tracks the performance of stocks with the highest exposure to quality, value and momentum investment factors.

UBS also brought a smart beta product ETF to our market. The UBS ETF MSCI USA Select Factor Mix UCITS ETF tracks the performance of large to small cap stocks, weighted by their exposure to 6 long-term risk factors: momentum, value, shareholder yield, quality, volatility and size.

Lyxor Index Fund listed a corporate fixed income product, Lyxor $ Floating Rate Note UCITS ETF, which provides exposure to US corporate debt from the industrial, utility and financial sectors.

Trading Activity
Orderbook value traded for ETFs and other ETPs in May 2017 was £8.4 billion (223k trades), up by 42% compared to May 2016.
Orderbook value traded for ETFs and other ETPs YTD is £38.9 billion (1.1m trades), up by 8% compared to 2016.
Total on-exchange value traded for ETFs and other ETPs in May 2017 was £29.4 billion (329k trades), up by 52% compared to May 2016.
Total on-exchange value traded for ETFs and other ETPs YTD was £136.3 billion (1.6m trades), up by 16% compared to 2016.
