By most measures the launch of bitcoin exchange traded funds in the US has been a rip-roaring success, but industry participants say coming innovations will turbo-charge the crypto ETF industry further still.
Just over a year on from their debut, US-listed bitcoin ETFs hold $120bn of assets. The largest, the $57bn iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), was the world's fastest ETF to get to $10bn, $25bn and $50bn in AUM, has surpassed iShares' Gold Trust and is closing in on the $80bn SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) as the planet's largest commodity exchange traded product.

Investments in ETFs within Fidelity's custom model portfolios have reached 51% at the end of last year.
Fidelity Investments is the latest asset manager to ramp up its model-portfolio business as demand for off-the-shelf and customized investment strategies across asset classes continues to pick up.
The company is launching Target Risk ETF Model Portfolios and the Target Allocation ETF Model Portfolios, two strategies that offer investors exposure to equities, bonds or alternatives by tracking a blend of active and passive exchange-traded funds, according to a Thursday press release. Both are open-architecture, which allows the portfolios to hold products apart from their own.

The Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada said in 2023 that $1 trillion of wealth was expected to move between Canadian baby boomers and their millennial and Generation X children from 2023 to 2026.

Vanguard has unseated State Street for the title of the world's biggest exchange-traded fund, ushering in a new world order for the $11 trillion industry.
The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (ticker VOO) now commands nearly $632 billion in assets after raking in some $23 billion so far in 2025, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That haul has vaulted VOO past the $630 billion SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust, known as SPY, which previously held the title of largest ETF.
Coinbase Launches Solana, Hedera Futures Contracts for US Traders
February 18, 2025-Coinbase's derivatives arm said that it now offers CFTC-regulated futures contracts covering Solana and Hedera.
Coinbase said on Tuesday that its derivatives exchange now offers futures contracts for Solana (SOL) and Hedera (HBAR), expanding its suite of products to cover more cryptocurrencies with pending applications for spot ETFs in the U.S.
Regulated by the CFTC, Coinbase said in a blog post that the exchange's derivatives arm now offers futures contracts for 19 total assets, including Dogecoin, Litecoin and gold, among other altcoins.
